The Italdesign Zerouno first made waves at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. It caused a ruckus at the show as all five production models were gobbled up in record time. A year after the Zerouno’s dramatic unveiling, Italdesign is headed back to the dance with a convertible version of its niche supercar, called the Zerouno Roadster. Care to venture a guess how long it takes before Italdesign sells out its allocation of these drop-top beauties?

We still don’t know details about the convertible Zerouno, but Italdesign did drop a teaser photo that gives us a good indication of what we can expect ahead of the convertible’s debut in Geneva. From the teaser, we can make out a few elements that were directly taken from the coupe version. The absence of a roof is also a good indicator that the model is, in fact, a drop-top version. Like its coupe sibling, the Zerouno Roadster will also be heavily based on the Audi R8 V10. We know that the coupe version used the core space frame aluminum and carbon fiber chassis of the R8. Unless Italdesign has a surprise up its sleeve, we expect the convertible version to use the same skeletal frame.

The shared technology should also extend to the engine where the coupe used the R8’s 5.2-liter V-10 engine, which came with 610 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The convertible should also get the same power numbers, but owing to its configuration as a drop-top, it will, in all likelihood, be slower than the coupe owing to what is expected to be a heavier product.

Italdesign hasn’t said how many models of the Zerouno Roadster it plans to build, and while it’s easy to assume that it’ll do five models just like its coupe counterpart, there is the allure of building more in the event that there’s incredible demand for it. One unit is expected to cost around £1.3 million ($1.8 million), though that price could balloon towards £2 million ($2.8 million) once owners are done checking off their list of options.

There’s no question that the Zerouno Roadster will be in hot demand once it breaks cover in Geneva. The only questions that need to be asked at this point are how many units Italdesign plans to build and how long it’s going to take for all those units to be spoken for. Considering that the Italian design house is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, I’m going to expect nothing less than the Zerouno Roadster blowing the roof off of the Geneva Motor Show.
