Superformance has been creating new versions of legendary cars since 1996. Some of their creations include the Shelby Cobra, Ford GT40, Caterham, and Daytona Coupe, among others. Recently, they recreated a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, which is perhaps one of their best creations to date, and Jay Leno took it out for a spin!

A Little About The Company Itself

Superformance was sold by Hi-Tech Automotive Ltd to Lance Stander, a passionate South African car enthusiast, in 2005. While he may be the face of the company, the mastermind is Ken Lingenfelter, the creator of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, which supplies a number of the drivetrains for Superformance cars. The one under the hood of the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is also his creation. Superformance has played it smart by targeting one of the rarest cars - the Chevrolet Grand Sport. Originally, only five copies were built before the whole project was scrapped. Finding such a car would be a tough task, and acquiring one, even more. It took the company eight years to convince General Motors to let them reincarnate this beauty.

Jay Leno gets behind the wheel and feels the car is very "1963," with the basics right in place and no electrical shenanigans whatsoever. The new Grand Sport is built to the same standards as the 1963 model. To give a brief idea, the car still uses the same transverse leaf spring suspension in the rear. Close your eyes and listen to the engine hum, and you'll be taken five decades back in time. Superformance has already built around 30 of these cars; which is a pretty good number given that the starting price is in the ballpark of $170,000.

Which car do you think they should reproduce next? My pick would be the Oldsmobile F-88. Let us know your choice in the comments section below.
