Kia just confirmed that the third-generation Soul will make its global debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show and released the first teaser with the subcompact. It doesn't show us too much, but we can add up to what we already know from the spy shots.

It Won't Change Much Design-Wise

The teaser shows the rear pillar from the side, giving us a glimpse of the taillights and the upper section of the bumper. Needless to say, the new Soul retains the boxy design of the outgoing model. The taillight design is also similar to the current model, climbing vertically on the pillar.

Floating roofs are very popular with carmakers right now, and several Kia models already have one. The Soul is just joining the trend. We can also notice a roof rail.

Although we can't see the front end in this image, the spy shots suggest the Soul will have slimmer upper headlamps acting as daytime running lights and larger lights below, like seen on the Hyundai Kona.

Same Trim Levels

Kia has already confirmed that the third-gen Soul will come in the same trim levels as the outgoing model. You'll be able to choose from a base version, a sportier Turbo model, and an all-electric variant. As usual, each will stand out through iconic features. Expect the Soul Turbo to have a more aggressive front bumper and a larger-center mounted exhaust pipe. The Soul EV will drop the grille for a plastic panel and will sport new badges.

More than 200 Miles of Range?

This information comes from a display seen in one of the prototypes. This means that it could feature the same electric drivetrain as the Hyundai Kona. It has a motor rated at either 132 or 201 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque. While the base model returns 186 miles per charge, the 201-horsepower version comes with up to 292 miles per charge.

We should find out more about all of this at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, so make sure you stay tuned for the Soul's global debut.
