10 months after making its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show,->ke228 the Koenigsegg Agera RS has officially sold out, making it the fastest selling model in the company’s history. Yep, all 25 units of the Agera RS->ke3628 are already spoken for with deposits being made on all 25 cars.

Koenigsegg->ke43 founder Christian von Koenigsegg made the announcement, commenting on the “instant classic” status of the Agera RS, and referring to the megacar as a “pinnacle project that has been wholly embraced by our customers and friends.” It’s hard not to argue with von Koenigsegg’s assessment here. The Agera RS, after all, is considered as the evolution of two previous Koenigsegg models - the Agera R and Agera S - and also includes applications that the company learned from developing the Koenigsegg One:1.

So in a lot of ways, the Agera RS is the product of years worth of experience building supercars, drawn up and developed by adhering to the principles that paved to way for its predecessors. No wonder all 25 units sold out as fast as they did.

On the technical side, the Agera RS is as fast and as powerful as any supercar->ke177 in existence today. On top of all the technological wizardry and all its state-of-the-art features, the Agera RS is powered by a 5.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine that can produce a conservative 1,160 horsepower on 95 octane fuel. That number is conservative because, according to Koenigsegg, the car can reach higher power levels when it’s running on E85 flex fuel.

Why it matters

Say what you will about Koenigsegg, but the Swedish automaker has really upped its supercar game in the wake of Bugatti’s temporary absence in the spotlight. The quickness by which it was able to secure deposits for all 25 units of the Agera RS is just the latest proof that Koenigsegg is doing something right. It’s more impressive when you consider that each Agera RS presumably costs more than $2 million per unit. So if there are 25 folks who have shown the willingness to fork over that kind of scratch, it shows that Koenigsegg is pushing the right buttons to develop a supercar that’s worthy of its name and its price tag.

Having said that, Koenigsegg supercars have been known to appear in the classifieds every so often. Back in November 2015, a Koenigsegg Agera R was being sold by a US dealer for $1.65 million. Go back a few years and there have been examples of the Koenigsegg CXX that have hit the used car market. Even the one-off Koenigsegg Agera X found itself on Jameslist back in 2012.

I honestly don’t know if it’s a case of not being able to maintain the costs of owning these cars or it’s something that’s a little more personal to these owners. What I do know is that there’s a track record for this sort of thing when it comes to Koenigseggs. So, let’s say somebody missed out on any one of the 25 units of the Agera RS. Don’t worry. All hope is not lost because there’s a chance you might see one for sale in the near future. I can’t tell you how much they’re going to cost because I don’t know that either. But rest assured, I think it’s going to happen sooner or later. It’s just the nature of the beast, especially when it comes to cars that cost in excess of seven figures.
