Koenigsegg’s->ke43 showroom area inside its Ängelholm production facility was recently transformed into a new prototype workshop. Inside that workshop, engineers have been busy at work developing designs for future vehicles->ke2048 and new technology->ke1701 for the exclusive automaker. The first thing to come out of this prototype workshop is a system that is now available on the new Koenigsegg Regera, and it goes by the name “Autoskin.”

Autoskin is a technology that adds automation to the Regera.->ke5077 With the use of lightweight hydraulics soft-close mechanisms and proximity sensors, the system can open and close the rear engine cover door, passenger and driver door, and the front luggage door. They system makes the automation seem effortless, and with the proximity sensors, it is safe and practical – adding even more beauty to an already gorgeous car.

Christian von Koenigsegg said, “People often comment on our cars looking spectacular when all the doors of the vehicle are open.” He continued, “Our new Autoskin system enhances this, adding a new level of beauty, practicality and sophistication to the most exciting new hypercar->ke177 in the world – the Koenigsegg Regera.”

The Regera already comes with a rather unique key, but that key will now include the controls for Autoskin as well. Each door can be opened individually, or if you press “Show Mode,” all doors will open and the spoiler will raise at the same time. If you’re one to pay attention to the small details, don’t worry about weight gain. The whole system adds less that 5kg, (11 pounds) which means performance figures should remain about the same.

Why it matters

I think Autoskin is a great development from Koenigsegg, and I think it is even better that it is available for the Regera. Automation is a pretty popular add-on for those that like to enter car shows, and when you really think about it, the $2.37-milllion hypercar deserves to make a stop at every car show it can. Why not have a feature like Autoskin that allows the car to gracefully show off everything it has to offer with the push of a button. I can’t wait to see what comes out of the prototype workshop next.
