The successor to the Koenigsegg Agera RS is still months away from arriving, but that hasn’t stopped Koenigsegg from teasing the hypercar in somewhat of a cheeky fashion. According to Motor1, a design sketch of the upcoming hypercar was included in an otherwise standard-looking press release about the opening of a new Koenigsegg dealership in Australia. The sketch doesn’t reveal a lot about the car, but it does give us a good idea on what its rear section is going to look like.

By the looks of it, the successor to the Koenigsegg Agera RS is certainly off to a promising start. The teaser barely reveals anything, but it does show a few design details that are already making us excited. It has a more evocative shape than the Agera RS, thanks to what looks to be curved rear fenders. The diffuser is also clearly depicted, but the configuration of the bumper is what really has our attention. That and the massive rear wing that looks to be as wide as the car itself. The taillights look much more modern, too, with a few styling hints coming from McLaren. Actually, if you didn’t know this was the successor to the Agera RS, you could mistake it for a McLaren. That’s not necessarily a bad thing because McLarens, though not as powerful as Koegniseggs, are some of the sexiest cars on the road. Maybe Koenigsegg has finally found a way to marry both?

Beyond this design sketch, we also know that the Agera RS successor will come with a Targa roof and Koenigsegg’s signature scissor doors. The car is also expected to gain more power than the car it’s replacing, all while losing weight in the process. That much was revealed by no less than Koenigsegg founder and boss, Christian von Koenigsegg, in a conversation with Top Gear in which he hinted that this model will have as much as 30 horsepower more than the Agera RS while carrying 20 kilos less in weight. Do the math on that, and we’re looking at a hypercar that could have 1,371 horsepower if it’s fitted with the 1 Megawatt Package while weighing just 1,375 kilos (3,075 pounds). That’s approaching One:1 territory, folks.

It’s still unclear how Koenigsegg plans to package this model — is it road-oriented, track-oriented, or both? — but if it is the true successor to the Agera RS, it wouldn’t be surprising if it’s the latter. That would mean a lot of things, none more important than its performance ability. Could this car usurp the Agera RS as the fastest production car in the world? Koenigsegg did say that this model is going to be “more capable” than the Agera RS. In other words, expect the hype and buzz to escalate as we draw closer to its launch.

Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen until the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, giving us a waiting period of eight months before we can actually see the car in the flesh. That’s a long wait time that will likely be filled with more teases and rumors about what’s shaping up to be Koenigsegg’s latest masterpiece.

Can March 2019 come already?
