It's been only 24 hours since Lamborghini released a short video of the upcoming Aventador SVJ on the Nurburgring, and the Italian firm announced that the supercar set a new lap record for production cars at the Nurburgring. The Aventador SVJ lapped the German track in 6:44.97 minutes, a full minute quicker than the previous record holder.

The record was set with the camouflaged car that we already saw in the teaser and with factory driver Marco Mapelli behind the steering wheel. The run had support from Pirelli technicians, and Lambo used a custom system of cameras and telemetry to document the lap. The Aventador SVJ dethroned the all-electric NextEV Nio EP9, which set a 6:45.90-minute record in 2016.

Lambo's new record comes only months after the Huracan Performante lapped the German track in six minutes and 52 seconds, or around eight seconds slower. The Aventador SVJ was also 15 seconds quicker than the Aventador SV, which needed 6:59.73 minutes to lap the Nordschleife back in 2015.

Lambo claims that the record was set with a stock car, without any extra features that customers can't buy fitted inside and out. The Aventador SVJ was equipped with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires during the run, but these can be had as an option on the upcoming supercar.

Speaking of which, the Aventador SVJ will break cover at the Monterey Car Week in California next month. Details are still being kept in the vault, but the SVJ will be the most extreme Aventador ever made.
