Lamborghini's First-Ever Hybrid Hypercar Could Be An 838-Horsepower Powerhouse

Hold on to your seats, gentlemen, as Lamborghini is preparing to enter the hypercar race

Now that the buzz surrounding the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is subsiding, it’s now time to turn our attention to Lamborghini's first-ever hypercar. The latest intel on the model — we only know it today as the “LB48H” — suggests that the hybrid hypercar will produce 838 horsepower, making it the most powerful Lamborghini ever created. Like the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ 63, only 63 units of the hybrid hypercar are expected to be produced, each carrying a rumored price tag of $2.5 million.

The buzz bees hovering around the Lamborghini Aventador's replacement is growing by the day. The latest word, brought by The Supercar Blog, suggests that the hypercar, called “LB48H” at the moment, will feature a naturally aspirated V-12 engine and an electric motor that will combine to produce a whopping 838 horsepower. Either way, that’s a lot of power, even by Lamborghini’s standards. It doesn’t quite approach the 910-horsepower hybrid setup of the Asterion, but that model was presented as a concept at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. In other words, it doesn’t count the same way the LB48H will count if it does have the kind of power it’s rumored to have.

In addition to the rumored output, the Lamborghini hypercar will be heavily inspired by the Terzo Millennio Concept that Lamborghini unveiled back in November 2017. If that’s the case, expect the hypercar to feature a good amount of sharp edges and angles. The Terzo Millennio was lauded for its cutting-edge design, and if the LB48H takes a few elements from the Terzo Millennio, it’ should look nothing short of incredible.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Lamborghini’s going to offer the hypercar in quantities that are commensurate with the competition. Ferrari limited production of the LaFerrari to just 499 units while McLaren built fewer P1s, amounting to only 375 units. Those numbers will pale in comparison, though, to the LB48H. Care to venture a guess why only 63 units of the Lambo hypercar will be built?

Don’t bother figuring out if you can get one, though. There’s a good chance that all 63 units already have owners. Lamborghini did preview the model in a private gathering back in June, which was attended by 200 people. How many of those went home having committed to spend $2.5 million for the car? Our guess is 63 people.
