It wasn’t too long ago when Land Rover->ke46 was in such financial trouble that the Indian carmaker Tata had to intervene just to keep the brand from fading into obscurity.

Now, it’s safe to say that the luxury SUV brand has finally turned the corner after – or, at the very least, is well on its way back to respectabilty – they announced that they have sold a record 11,000 units in the UK in the month of March alone.

The figures compared to last year aren’t staggering – they sold 60 units more compared to the same time last year - but given the prior state the company was mired in, any improvement is good improvement.

The record sales figures for March also concluded a highly successful first quarter for Land Rover, which saw its sales post a 58% improvement in its year-on-year figures in January.

Continued after the jump.

According to Land Rover’s managing director, John Edwards, the spike in sales numbers could be attributed to the improving economy in the UK, which saw a lot of people revert to being a little more loose on the pockets compared to the rampant penny-pinching at the height of the financial crisis.

Ultimately, Land Rover is still looking for marked improvements on their sales figures as the year continues, but needless to say, the brand couldn’t be more thrilled to finally get the year of on the right foot.
