Lexus is all set to introduce the UX crossover at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The arrival of the small crossover bolsters what is already an impressive lineup of Lexus crossovers and SUVs. The UX is being seen as the company’s answer to models like the BMW X2, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, and the Jaguar F-Pace. There’s no timetable for the crossover’s launch, but details should be made available as soon as the UX introduces itself to the world in Geneva.

If you’re familiar with the name “UX” from Lexus, it’s because the automaker used it on a concept that introduced at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. Some of you might remember that model for its bulging sci-fi-like design. Don’t expect the production model to be as in-your-face with its design. A teaser video accompanying Lexus’ announcement even reveals a more toned down full-width taillight panel compared to what the concept version showcased in Paris back in 2016.

It is worth mentioning that the UX’s arrival comes two years after Lexus trademarked the model names UX 200, UX 250, and UX 250h with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This tells you that the crossover has been in Lexus’ pipeline for some time now. It’s unclear what kind of powertrains the crossover will receive, but considering its proximity to the NX crossover, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the UX use the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s currently found under the hood of the NX. The engine should have a different state of tune compared to the NX to create a little differentiation between the two models. A hybrid version should be in the cards if Lexus uses the UX 250h name on the crossover. Similarly, there are already whispers of a UX F Sport version that will sit as the range-topping trim of the model.

Obviously, there are more questions than answers at this point about the UX crossover. We’ll know soon enough what Lexus has on its plate with the UX. In the meantime, expect more speculation about the model’s looks and capabilities. The teaser video doesn’t help a lot in this regard, but we’ll take what we can get from Lexus. Here’s to hoping the UX crossover lives up to the hype it’s starting to generate.
