London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has announced that its latest TX eCity taxi will launch in Paris, France. Although the date yet to be set, it will be launched sometime in the first half of next year. The vehicle comes at the perfect time as Paris ramps up its fight on air pollution.

LECVC's TX eCity Taxi Should Launch in Mid-2019

The TX eCity’s launch date will be announced at a later time as negotiations between London Electric Vehicle Company and its chosen importer have yet to conclude, but it’s scheduled to happen sometime in the first half of next year. This vehicle will certainly contribute to Paris’ push for air quality improvement.

LEVC TX eCity Battery and Performance

Talking about the car, the TX eCity has an electric motor that produces 148 horses and 188 pound-feet of torque. It’s powered by a 31-kWh Lithium-Ion battery that's good for an electric range of up to 80 miles alone. Complementing this, and acting as a range-extender, is a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engine that is connected to the battery.

What They had To Say

London Electric Vehicle Company’s CEO, Chris Gubbey said, “Given the air pollution difficulties facing French cities, we are very much looking forward to giving both drivers and passengers new options in Paris following a very positive reception on the streets. This truly bolsters out European position, and we look forward to serving the cities of France, alongside those in Norway, the Netherlands, and Germany.”

More About the TX eCity

In terms of creature comforts, the TX eCity comes with a 9-inch infotainment system, panoramic glass roof, Wi-Fi connectivity, intercom, and a host of other driving assistance systems that includes autonomous emergency braking as well.

Our Take

The car definitely seems potent, but given its application, the taxi could have compromised with a few features. That would have reduced the cost considerably, and pushed taxi operators to invest in a larger fleet. In my opinion, taxis should be ‘function over form,’ rather than having it the other way around.
