We are now closing in on the release of Mad Max: Fury Road, the latest installment in the Mad Max franchise, after quite a long wait since the release of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. The last trailer before the movie hits theaters has just been released, and it is the first one that doesn't seem to be mostly explosions. It's still definitely worth watching though, as a significant amount of the footage will be new to even those who have been following all of the trailers. The phrases “my name is Max” and “what a lovely day” will be familiar.

What we know so far is that this isn't a reboot, it's simply a sequel that got seriously delayed in production, and the events take place immediately after Beyond Thunderdome. We also know that the practice of giving fantastic names to the characters in this post apocalyptic hellscape will continue, with Charlize Theron playing Imperator Furiosa, and other characters having names like Rictus Erectus, Organic Mechanic and Valkyrie. A seemlingly villainous character named Immortan Joe is played by Hugh Keays-Byrne, who hardcore fans might recognize as having played Toecutter in the original 1979 movie. Sort of a nice way of bringing the whole thing full circle.
