There are a number of certainties we can always count on in the auto industry. One of those is the inevitability that comes with building tuning programs for new models, and we’re seeing it now with Manhart Racing. We all know that the German tuner has shown a particular affection for all things BMW and it’s no surprise that with the launch of the BMW M5 on the horizon, Manhart Racing is already preparing a tuning kit for the performance saloon. Heck, it even has a name for it already: MH5 800.

Now to be clear; the tuner does not have the kit ready yet. It’s still in the development phase, which explains why it only has one rendering to show all of us. But, we can make out what the tuner’s plans for the new M5 are and, for what it's worth, we can at least expect some serious business from the M5 once the kit is on the market. The name of the program alone gives away the expected output of the car in PS measurements. That’s 800 PS, which converts to about 789 horsepower, almost 200 ponies more than the 591-horsepower output of the “standard” M5. The expected figures from this program ought to be enough to make Manhart Racing’s first aftermarket offering for the BMW M5 something that's worth keeping an eye on.

What do we know about Manhart Racing’s MH 800 program for the BMW M5?

We don’t know a lot about it at the moment, but the good news is that Manhart Racing’s not keeping all of the details to itself either. What’s apparent, given the first rendering of the car, is that the program will feature significant aerodynamic components to go along with some cosmetic bits and pieces that bring out a different side to the M5. We can see it through the yellow accents scattered throughout the sedan’s body, including in the front bumper, the surrounding area of the massive intakes, and over at the sides where the accents help enhance the M5’s character lines.

As far as the aero bits are concerned, the presence of a front splitter is hard to miss, as are the carbon fiber mirror caps, and what appears to be a trunk-mounted rear spoiler peeking just a little bit from the back. BMW’s iconic logo on the sedan’s carbon fiber hood has also been replaced with Manhart Racing’s own logo. It’s unclear if that’s what the tuner is offering once the whole program comes out, but history has shown that the tuner has been known to offer this particular feature. Unfortunately, there are no photos of the M5’s interior so it’s hard to make out exactly what we can expect on that front. We do know that Manhart has a history of offering bespoke upgrades and, given the M5’s status as a premium sedan, there should be enough premium materials out there to dress up the cabin.

One last bit we also know at this point is that the M5 is capable of getting as much as 789 horsepower (800 PS) with Manhart Racing’s help. Should that end up being true, it’s reasonable to expect the sedan to blow away its standard performance numbers. Think the M5 can already blitz to a 3.4-second 0-to-60-mph time on its way to a top speed of 189 mph? With the German tuner’s help, the sedan could probably accelerate to 60 mph in less than three seconds before breaking into the 200 mph range without breaking a sweat.

More information about the program should be available as soon as the tuner makes it available, possibly at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
