Mark Webber is certainly no stranger to fast machinery. The 40-year-old Australian boasts a long, illustrious career in motorsport, piloting top-tier rides in a variety of series and classes, including the Porsche 919 Hybrid in the World Endurance Championship and several bids at Le Mans, not to mention 42 podium finishes in Formula 1. With a record like that, mere mortals like you and I should take note when a car impresses Webber with its performance. The latest Porsche 911 GT2 RS is one such vehicle, bringing enough heat to hit 208 mph at the Nurburgring and earning some high praise from the championship-winning driver.

That’s the headline from this brief video from our friends over at Driving.ca. Webber also offers his thoughts on the state of F1, saying “drivers still have to be the heroes, it’s about them, but they need to be rewarded. We can’t make the sport too safe and sterile. Its gotta be gladiatorial, there has to be an element of something that people just can’t do.”

The Full Story

Of course, as you might expect, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is certainly no slouch. Specs include nearly 700 horsepower at the rear wheels thanks to a frenetic twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six powerplant mounted in the tail, which is enough muscle to slingshot the coupe to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. Pair that kind of motivation with hugely effective aerodynamics, a lightweight chassis, monstrous grip, and high-tech suspension, and you’ve got the right stuff to go fast. The real question is whether or not the GT2 RS has what it takes to set a new Nurburgring lap record, but hopefully we’ll find an answer to that sooner rather than later.
