McLaren has launched the online configurator for the new 600LT supercar. Launched at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed back in July, the track-prepped Sports Series supercar brings back the Long Tail heritage for McLaren. The 600LT is lighter and more powerful than the 570S. It’s powered by the same twin-turbo, 3.8-liter, V-8 that’s used throughout the entire Sports Series lineup. The 600LT’s V-8 engine is tuned to produce 592 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque, 30 horsepower and 14 pound-feet of torque more than the 570S. Now that the supercar’s online configurator is live, it’s time to go have some fun with it.

The first order of business is choosing a right paint color for my (virtual) McLaren 600LT. In the end, I’m choosing the Saros Elite paint finish. It’s a lighter shade of grey with an almost bluish tint to it. It looks classy on the 600LT without ruining its sporting characteristics.

Moving on to the wheels and brakes didn’t make my job easier. Sure, there aren’t that many options to choose from, but all the options are worthy of consideration. I’m going with the 10-spoke, diamond-cut ultra-lightweight forged wheels and I’m jazzing it up with red carbon ceramic brake calipers behind it. The combination of the Saros Elite paint finish and the red calipers look amazing on the 600LT.

Since money isn’t a problem with the 600LT configurator, I’m going to dial up on McLaren’s carbon fiber offerings by choosing all three carbon fiber upgrades that are available. Upgrade 1, for example, covers the door mirror casings and the extended sire intakes. Upgrade 2 adds to that by giving the carbon fiber treatment on the front splitter, side skirt, rear bumper, rear spoiler, and integrated diffuser. Then there’s Upgrade 3, which puts the carbon fiber touches on the exterior door inserts, the rear deck, and the service cover.

With the exterior done, I’m turning my attention towards the interior of my 600LT. This is, without question, the most difficult section to configure, largely because I want to include all the available options in my virtual supercar. That obviously can’t happen so difficult choices have to be made. Jet Black leather dominates the surface section of the interior. I’m purposely limiting the Carmine Red leather to the door panels because I want to have a symmetrical design with the exterior.

After much thought, I’m holding off on adding more options to the interior other than getting MSO Defined Red seat belts. The 600LT’s cabin is fantastic enough on its own. If I added more carbon fiber to it, I’d practically drown myself on the damn thing. All the carbon fiber panels in the exterior are more than enough for me. I don’t need a lot more of them in the interior.

That said, I am adding the optional Bowers & Wilkins Audio System. The system offers 1,280 watts of power to go with a digital 14-channel amplifier, a 12-speaker system, and a host of state-of-the-art Bowers & Wilkins audio technologies. I'm also checking all the boxes under “Safety & Security.” That’s going to get me a rearview camera with front and rear parking sensors, a vehicle tracking system, and a security pack that includes the aforementioned sensors a vehicle lift feature, a fitted car cover, and an alarm upgrade.

The rest of the options are inconsequential to me. My McLaren 600LT can do without the fire extinguisher, ashtray, branded floor mat set. I am getting warning triangle and a first aid kit, but I’m not getting them from McLaren.

I love how my Mclaren 600LT turned out. It's not as flashy as some of the other 600LTs I've seen, and I'm perfectly fine with it. In fact, I prefer the more low-key look of my virtual supercar. It's eye-catching without being overbearing, which is exactly what the 600LT is all about.
