Even though the McLaren 650S has enough grunt to go head-to-head with million-dollar hypercars, its exhaust sound has always been a bit too mild for some, mainly because the two turbochargers muffle the sound coming from the 3.8-liter V-8. This is what usually happens with cars that use a smallish engine with a lot of boost, but exhaust manufacturer Armytrix has devised a solution for this problem: a valve-controlled titanium exhaust system with three operating modes.

Known car-spotter Shmee150 recently filmed a 650S Spider fitted with an Armytrix exhaust system, and the resulting sound is louder without making bystanders cover their ears. The system comprises ceramic-coated, decatted down pipes, a valve-controlled titanium muffler, matte-black tail pipes and an OBDII remote control module that can give the option of three "loudness modes." The electronically controlled valve can be adjusted depending on the engine's rpm. You can control the opening of the solenoid valve with a proprietary app that can be installed on both iOS and Android smartphones.

Apart from the obvious improvement in the exhaust note the McLaren->ke284 also benefits from the lower weight of the titanium system, while horsepower and torque are apparently improved by an undisclosed amount as well. In fact, Armytrix says that the better exhaust sound is nothing but a by-product, and I'm not one to argue with that, although some cold, hard, numbers would have been nice.
