McLaren has created a custom-made special edition 570S Spider that went for £725,000 (almost $950,000) as part of the 25th anniversary of Elton John’s AIDS Foundation. Proceeds from the sale of the one-off McLaren will go to John’s charity, which has helped millions of people across 26 different countries.

In a roundabout way, one-off McLarens aren’t exactly uncommon these days because there are so many of them. But they are still one-offs because each one is different from the other. The 570S Spider that the British automaker created for Elton John definitely fits that bill.

Take, for example, its paint. According to McLaren, the 570S was hand-sprayed in a special, sparkling metallic Blade Silver shade that looks right at home on the 570S. The exclusive color is complemented by a set of 10-spoke lightweight alloy wheels finished in a slick contrasting Stealth finish. Just behind the delectable wheels sit carbon ceramic brake calipers finished in McLaren’s signature McLaren orange. The exterior has an understated yet dramatic look, exactly the kind of car you’d expect to see on an event hosted by the incomparable Elton John.

Step inside the one-off McLaren and the customization options continue with seats dressed in Jet Black Nappa leather and stitched with an equally exclusive Carbon Black thread. An optional sports exhaust system is also included in the one-off 570S, as is a 10-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system.

There are no power upgrades to be had, but that didn’t dissuade people from bidding the supercar up to almost seven figures. Even without any performance enhancements, the 570S Spider still carries a 3.8-liter, biturbo, V-8 that pushes out an impressive 570 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. That's good enough for the car to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds before setting off for a top speed run of 196 mph.

Like I said, the car sold for a whopping £725,000 ($950,000) at Elton John’s charity event. It’s a steep price to pay even for a one-off McLaren 570S, but at least all the proceeds will go to a worthy cause. The winning buyer isn’t going home with just the car, either. He’ll also get a personal tour of the McLaren technology center, where he will be accompanied by Amanda McLaren, the only child of founder Bruce McLaren and a brand ambassador for McLaren Automotive. The tour is described as a “money-can’t-buy-experience,” in large part because McLaren’s going to pull the curtains on the process of creating its vehicles from scratch. The fact that the center itself is never open to the public speaks to how incredible this tour is going to be.
