Cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi and others in the United Arab Emirates have become synonymous with supercar->ke177 culture, but as a driving destination, the region doesn’t have the reputation of, say, the Stelvio Pass in Italy or the Pacific Coast Highway in California.
Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain is the proud owner of a McLaren MP4-12C Spider, and is also the one of the founding members of Supercar Club Arabia. Held in November of 2014, "Desert Run" was the club’s biggest event to date, and attracted 50 participants from all over the region. Lucky for us, McLaren->ke284 sent a camera crew along for the ride.
The supercar convoy snaked through Oman and along the coast of the Arabian Gulf, where they visited the city of Sohar, the birthplace of Sinbad (the mythical sailor, not the comedian). After crossing back into the UAE, the convoy hit the road to the top of Jebel Hafeet, a winding mountain pass that’s equidistant from Dubai and Abu Dhabi and is a popular destination for drivers looking to get their cars out of congested city centers.
We’re accustomed to videos of Lamborghinis,->ke44 Ferraris,->ke252 Bugattis,->ke16 McLarens and every other supercar under the sun cruising the boulevards of Dubai, so it’s cool to see where enthusiasts in this part of the world go when they want to drive rather than just be seen.
