Unveiled in late 2018, the Mercedes-Benz EQC is back into the spotlight at the 2019 New York Auto Show as the EQC Edition 1886. This special-edition SUV is offered with unique features inside and out and celebrates a special event in automotive history.

The EQC Edition 1886 pays tribute to the Benz Patent-Motorwagen

Although Mercedes-Benz didn't make any comments on the name, it's pretty obvious that the badge is a tribute to the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, a three-wheel motorized carriage that Karl Benz introduced in 1886. Powered by a 1.0-liter single-cylinder engine with two horsepower, it's widely regarded as the world's first production automobile. Benz built about 25 units between 1886 and 1893.

Granted, it's not a major departure from the non-gloss black on the regular model, but it sets the special-edition model apart. And this shade works well with the silver metallic exterior that this model is restricted to. It also features high-gloss black badges, "EQC Edition 1886" lettering on the mudguard, and 10-spoke, 20-inch wheels in high-gloss black with white accents.

You'll find similar add-ons inside the cabin. There's a similar badge on the center console, while the floor mats have "EQC" embroidery. Trim elements in "silver matrix look" round off the cabin.

The EQC Edition 1886 comes standard with the Energizing package

Another extra added to this limited-edition model is the Energizing comfort controller. This system combines various systems to create an optimal environment for the passengers from the lighting mood to the fragrancing and ionization of the air. The Energizing Coach features uses data from the vehicle and surroundings to recommend one of a program that fits the situation. It takes aspects such as the traffic situation, weather, and length of the journey into consideration.

The EQC Edition 1886 is a standard EQC under the shell

The "1886" badge doesn't come with changes in the drivetrain department. It features the same two-motor layout and 384-cell battery, which deliver a total output of 402 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque. The SUV needs only 4.9 seconds to hit 60 mph, pretty impressive for an EV, while top speed is limited to 112 mph. The EQC travels for around 200 miles per single charge. Charging the battery from 10 to 80 percent takes only 40 minutes with a quick charging socket.
