Mercedes->ke187 just dropped details on the first high-performance variant of the new E-Class, blessing the mid-size->ke1695 sedan->ke142 with a little extra excitement. Let’s start with the engine, which is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 producing 396 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. Those figures come courtesy of new turbos, which stuff the cylinders with nearly 16 psi of boost. The turbos are also placed closer to the engine for sharper throttle response. A run from standstill to 62 mph takes 4.6 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited at 155 mph.

Combined fuel economy is rated 8.3 liters/100 km, helped along by a start/stop function activated by the “Eco” drive mode. Speaking of drive modes, the 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission offers several, including “Sport,” “Sport Plus,” and “Comfort.” There’s also a “Manual” shift mode to take full advantage of the paddles behind the steering wheel. Power is routed to the ground via a standard rear-biased AWD system.

AMG->ke8 also retuned the multi-chamber air suspension, which uses adaptive damping for either leisurely cruising or aggressive cornering. The speed-sensitive steering now comes with a quicker ratio. Stopping the 3,900-pound vehicle are four-piston calipers in front, single-piston calipers in back, and 14-inch discs all around.

Visual upgrades include a new front bumper with large intakes, plus a diamond grille, high-gloss black trim, and a few AMG badges. In back is a quad exhaust with chrome tips and a spoiler. Standard rollers are 19-inch alloys, while 20-inchers are available.

Inside is microfiber and artificial leather upholstery, finished in black with red contrast stitching. There are exclusive sport pedals, plus red seat belts. The multifunction flat-bottom steering wheel is wrapped in black Nappa leather, and there’s a 4.5-inch multifunction color display in the gauge cluster. Sport seats are standard, but you can get more support with optional AMG units.

The 2017 AMG E 43 4Matic is slated to debut later this month at the New York International Auto Show.->ke226 Look for complete coverage right here at TopSpeed.
