Mercedes-Benz->ke187 just dropped cover on the 2017 GLS, introducing a new SUV->ke145 flagship for the German luxury->ke505 brand. Essentially a facelift for the current GL-Class, the GLS brings tweaked styling on the outside, the latest Merc-style amenities inside, and a comprehensive line of powertrain options.

Mercedes says the major focus for styling can be seen in the front, but the rear also received an update. There are chrome details sprinkled everywhere, such as the roof rails, shoulder line trim, and lower skirts. Paint options include two special editions in Diamond White and Cardinal Red. There’s also a diversity of alloy wheel designs to choose from.

Inside the seven-seater, you’ll find tons of luxury and technology. Mercedes redesigned the instrument panel and center console, and added several new wood and piano lacquer trim options. The steering wheel is a new three-spoke unit wrapped in Nappa leather. There’s Internet access, remote-start capability, an 8-inch media display, and an optional air ionization system. There’s also a plethora of active safety systems on offer, such as automatic braking, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring.

Keeping the rubber side down is an improved Airmatic air suspension system. Under-hood options include a turbocharged V-6 with 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque (base-model GLS450), a turbocharged V-8 with 449 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque (GLS550), and a diesel V-6 with 255 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque (GLS350d). At the top sits the venerable AMG GLS63, which produces a heady 577 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque.

Each model comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic AWD, excluding the AMG GLS63, which instead uses a different, rear-biased AWD system and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The new GLS will be available to order next month. Deliveries begin in the U.S. late March 2016.
