It's been exactly one year since Donald Trump was elected president and we already know he's the world's greatest buffoon. Unfortunately, he's not as amusing as he is toxic and extremely uneducated. Trying to compile a list of awful mistakes he's made in one year in office is a daunting job, simply because they're way too many. We already know he's a complete idiot when it comes to global warning, that he's a racist, a misogynist. He also has no idea where U.S. troops are located around the world and went out of his way to give many of the country's allies the middle finger. But, where does it stop? I'm afraid it doesn't, but now we have proof that Trump is a moron when it comes to cars and the American automobile industry too.

If you haven't been following the (*cough* obviously fake *cough*) news, Trump just visited Japan, mainly to discuss the recent threats coming from North Korea, which has tested numerous missiles above and around the Asian island. He also had a few things to say about the auto industry while speaking to a group of business leaders in Tokyo. And, he made a fool of himself by telling the Japanese to build their cars in the United States instead of shipping them over the Pacific. Yes, he has no clue that Japanese companies have been building vehicles in the United States for decades now, and they're building millions of cars in their U.S. plants each year. Good thing the folks over at Jalopnik and Reuters put together a few figures for America's worst president ever. Let's check them out below.

Free Speech for the Dumb

So, Japanese carmakers should build their stuff in the U.S. huh? Well, Mr. President clearly doesn't know that Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Subaru are already doing that. Toyota actually runs no fewer than six factories, while Honda has four different plants. Nissan builds its American cars in two factories, while Subaru is located in Indiana. And, Mazda will join Toyota for a new plant too.

All these plants put together nearly four million vehicles and 4.7 million engines in 2016, with more than 400,000 exported to various markets in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. It's also common knowledge that many Japanese cars built in the U.S. use more American-made parts than vehicles coming from Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler.

To put this into perspective, Japanese plants in the U.S. purchased American parts worth $69.9 billion in 2016 alone! And, they have been paying well in excess of $40 billion for U.S.-made parts since 2010. What's more, the Japanese plants are currently providing jobs for more than 90,000 people. If that's not helping the American economy, I don't know what is...

Okay okay, so he's actually aware that Japanese brands have plants in the U.S., and the main goal of the speech was to congratulate Toyota and Mazda for investing in a new one, but it's still pathetic to address all these companies with the line "try building your cars in the United States instead of shipping them over." It only proves that he knows squat about the American auto industry, which is as much as he knows about everything else.
