It's normal for details of big-name video games->ke2888 to come out just a bit at a time, and EA's reboot of the Need for Speed->ke3700 franchise certainly qualifies as a big name. So we've been getting a bit here and bit there, mostly about the game's mechanics for modifying cars, as well as generous helpings of some genuinely impressive graphics. With this latest trailer, we get a look at how all of this fits into the Need for Speed world. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say how it fits into the real world, because several real-world automotive personalities show up in the game.

Why it matters

The press release that accompanied this trailer made the claim that the game blurs the line between live action film and in-game. This is hardly a unique claim; it's been made countless times from about the time of the first CD-ROM games, but it does have to be said that a lot of attention seems to have been paid to the story, especially considering that a lot of driving games don't even bother with stories at all. The addition of the automotive celebrities is interesting, but in a way that would probably require actually playing the game to really get a handle on. Here's hoping it works, because this reboot is certainly a very ambitious game.
