BMW has confirmed plans for a future megacity vehicle and now AutoCar is bringing us some new details on the future car. According to the British magazine, BMW will unveil the Megacity in 2013 as a BMW->ke178 sub-brand. The car will be built in Leipzig, Germany.

BMW boss Norbert Reithofer said: "We keep investing in Germany as a production location - particularly in the field of future-orientated hi-tech. That is BMW. The assignment we have given ourselves from the very beginning is to develop a Megacity vehicle that will be a zero-emission vehicle. And it will be sustainable throughout its entire lifecycle. Simply put, we are on the verge of revolutionizing vehicle production. We will apply carbon and carbon-reinforced materials at a scope unprecedented in series vehicle production." The low-cost, lightweight carbon will be developed with BMW's new carbon partner, SGL Carbon. The carbon factory will be built in Moses Lake, Washington.

The first model will be launched as a five-seat Golf-size family car that is rumored to get 160 miles on a single charge. We think it is safe to say that the range will continue to grow to include sportscars and other vehicles as BMW's investment in the Megacity vehicle continues to grow.
