Ferrari will not be using the services of maybe again Formula One champion Fernando Alonso.  On Monday, Ferrari announced that it has extended the contract of Felipe Massa to 2010.  As it has been Massa’s seat which reportedly was to be tendered to Alonso, the contract extension to Massa rules out Alonso at Ferrari.  The other team car will, of course, be driven by Kimi Raikkonen.

As Alonso seems unhappy at McLaren and McLaren’s probably none to fond of Alonso, the question now becomes whether Alonso will return to Renault.  Rumors floated recently have him doing exactly that, but Renault team manager Flavio Briattore has not confirmed them, pointing out that Alonso remains under contract to McLaren through the 2008 season.  Renault, however, has not announced next year’s driver line up and has said no announcement is to be expected in the near future.

Alonso, however, has told the press that McLaren does not want him to remain for the next season and is willing to let him leave.  Toyota has also been mentioned as a possible ride for Alonso, though it is believed that Briattore would like to have him back.
