French automaker Peugeot just unveiled a few brand-new hybrid drivertrains for three of its vehicles. Called Hybrid and Hybrid4, these new powertrains will be available for the 508 sedan, 508 SW wagon, and the 3008 crossover by Autumn of 2019.

Two Different Powertrains

The less powerful Hybrid drivetrain was developed specifically for the 508 and brings together the company's latest 1.6-liter PureTech engine and an electric motor. The gas mill generates 180 horsepower, while the motor adds 110 horses for a combined maximum output of 225 horsepower. Fuel economy figures aren't yet available, but Peugeot posted emissions of only 49 grams of CO2 per km for the 508 and 508 SW models equipped with this combo.

The Hybrid4 drivetrain will go into the 3008 SUV. The "4" in the name stands for four-wheel-drive obviously, but this system is also more powerful than the other one. Total output sits at 300 horsepower. When all three are in use, the 3008 will be able to hit 62 mph in 6.2 seconds.

These hybrid models will also come with an eight-speed automatic transmission developed specifically for the new drivetrains. Both will get their juice from a 300-volt lithium-ion battery. Capacity will vary, though. While the 508 will have an 11.8-kWh battery, the more powerful 3008 will feature a 13.2-kWh unit. Peugeot quotes an all-electric range of up to 30 miles. Most likely you'll get that much in the 3008. The smaller battery in the 508 will probably return up to 25 miles.

Energy Recuperation Systems

It's called i-Booster. Peugeot also developed e-Save, a system that will allow you to reserve electric energy for planned routes ahead. Recharging the battery takes "less than two hours" using a 6.6-kW, 32A wallbox, but more options should become available after launch.

The new Hybrid drivetrains will also feature new driving modes, including the ZEV 100% electric mode, Sport mode, Comfort mode, and Hybrid mode. The 3008 will have a unique 4-wheel drive mode.

You'll be able to monitor engine efficiency, electricity consumption, driving mode, electric gauge level, and available electrical distance. Speaking of interior modifications, the hybrid version of the 3008 will come in GT trim only, complete with full Mistral black leather with aged grey oak inserts.

The cars will remain identical to their non-hybrid counterparts on the outside, save for new badges and an extra "fuel" cap for the charging socket.

The 508 and 3008 are two of Peugeot's more popular cars, and this upgrade makes them the company's first vehicles to offer gasoline, diesel, and hybrid power under the same roof.

It now features a sportier design on the outside and state-of-the-art tech on the inside. Powered by four-cylinder engines only, the 508 is available with both gasoline and diesel power in addition to the upcoming hybrid.

The 3008 shares technology and drivetrains with the 508, but it also comes with unique engines in some markets. The lineup includes a turbocharged 1.2-liter unit, as well as 1.6- and 2.0-liter mills, mostly diesel units. The 3008 was redesigned in 2016 when Peugeot made a bold move to turn the first-generation MPV into a full-fledged crossover.
