It's difficult to look at the 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS without thinking that it exists solely because of Porsche's->ke1 obsessive need to make a car for every hyper-specific budget and taste. And the truth is that's probably was why it was created, but that doesn't matter, because Porsche has still made an excellent car. Slotting in between the S and the GT3, the GTS actually hits that sweet spot between race car->ke148 and street car, which the S falls short of and the GT3 overshoots. But this is something that not a lot of people are aware of, thanks to the fact that not counting special editions, there are now 25 different variations of the 911 and you need to be quite the fanboy to keep them all straight.

Porsche has put out this video,->ke278 seemingly just to remind us of just what the GTS is and why it exists. It's the sort of thing that would be entirely unnecessary for a lot of automakers, but is a logical move for Porsche, and it's not as though we could ever object to well-produced footage of a 911->ke282 on a race track.

The big thing to keep in mind with the GTS is that it is now the fastest naturally aspirated 911 with a three-pedal manual transmission, what with the GT3 having switched to a paddle-shifted sequential gearbox. That makes this the trim level for purists, as this group tends to shun turbos and anything with two pedals. That's likely why Porsche is pushing so hard to make sure we know what it is, and emphasizing its race-car connections. The is the 911 for someone who wants performance and a serious driving experience, but isn't interested in taking it to the track. Quite a lot of people, really.
