Startup automakers tend to be the most ambitious types. They like making bold promises, but far more often than not, those same promises end up being unfulfilled. That said, Las Vegas-based startup PSC Motors is determined not to fall into that category as it plans to revolutionize the supercar->ke177 industry.

Speaking with BoldRide, PSC CEO Antonio Calva laid out the company’s plans of reinventing the industry as a whole, beginning with the SP-150, a car that was only unveiled in October 2015. According to Calva, the SP-150 will be the company’s introductory offering for buyers looking for a supercar on the cheap end.

The SP-150 will pack a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine that produces 680 horsepower. More importantly, it will only cost $75,000, which compares much favorably to similarly powered supercars that have six-figure price points.

From there, PSC Motors will slowly add more powerful variants of the SP-150 into the mix, including a 750-horsepower SP-150S, an 820-horsepower SP-150R, and a 900-horsepower SP-150 Mugen. These three supercars will be priced at $100,000, $130,000, and $210,000, respectively.

Then there’s the SP-200, the car PSC Motors considers as its crown jewel. The company expects this bad boy to blow any other supercar and hypercar out of the water, thanks in large part to a 9.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that pumps out an insane 1,700 horsepower. That setup itself should make the Bugatti Veyrons->ke1112 and Koenigsegg One:1s quake in their boots, but the company isn’t settling for just 1,700 ponies on the SP-200. It’s also adding a pair of 300-kW electric motors, each with around 400 horsepower at its disposal and a 100-mile electric plug-in range. Do the math on the SP-200’s output and that adds up to an eye-popping 2,500 horsepower. PSC only plans to build 45 units of the SP-200, each priced at $1.8 million.

Yep, as far as ambitions go, PSC Motors has definitely raised the bar on that front.

Why it matters

It’s easy to be skeptical when a company few of us have heard of comes out from out of nowhere and touts its capacity to effectively change the supercar industry. Simply put, a lot of budding companies have tried and for the most part, a lot of them have failed.

PSC Motors is talking a similar game and for my money, I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a boutique company say it can produce a 2,500-horsepower supercar without wondering what they drank the night before.

But if you listen to Antonio Calva, it does sound like this company’s going to be different. There’s a little bit of bite behind its bark, or at least that’s what Calva wants us to believe. First, he says that unlike most startups, PSC Motors actually has its finances in order. Money has always been the biggest determining factor on a startup’s boom-or-bust outlook but Calva says it has enough to produce the SP-200 and the SP-150. He also says that it has a group of expert engineers working “around the clock” to produce the SP-200.

Second, Calva has already circled the 2016 Geneva Motor Show as the site of the SP-200 and SP-150’s debuts. And by debuts, he actually means fully functional cars that are ready to unleash holy hell on the rest of the supercar segment.

Whether PSC Motors can actually do that or not remains to be seen. But the company’s CEO is saying all the right things at this point and I’m compelled to at least take notice. If the SP-150 and the SP-200 do find themselves out on the streets with their promised power offerings and price points, they’ll definitely be the game changers that PSC believes they’ll be.
