The long-awaited Infiniti->ke36 supercar is drawing closer and closer to making its debut. No official date was given on an arrival date, that is until now.

According to a new report by Autocar, Infiniti appears set to launch its supercar->ke177 sometime between 2017 and 2018.

That's the awesome news. What's still murky is details surrounding the car's aesthetics, something Infiniti's European boss, Fintan Knight, admits is still in the "layout evaluation" phase. Rumors have pointed to styling influences attributed to the Essence and Emerg-e, which would be really awesome if that were the case.

Likewise, the supercar's powertrain is still being discussed, although the prevailing thought seems to point to a V-6 engine that will work in sync with an electric motor.

You can also expect a certain level of F1->ke190 knowledge that will be used on the supercar, a luxury afforded by the brand's involvement with Red Bull Racing and reigning F1 champion and current Director of Performance, Sebastian Vettel->ke3801.

It certainly goes without saying that Infiniti's recent model expansion is attributed to the company's plans to become more of a player in the industry. A number of new models are already being prepared for debuts in the coming years with the unquestioned highlight being the "still-in-development" supercar that will show its face for the first time as early as 2017.

2012 Infiniti Emerg-E Concept

When it was first introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show->ke228, the Inifiniti Emerg-E Concept took what we all thought was a rather mundane brand and amped up our future expectations for it.

Next to a completely new design language that brings Infiniti's new styling approach to full light, the concept also features an array of exciting new technologies that the brand said "will adopt in its quest to build dramatic and sustainable high performance cars."

That much is music to our ears, compounded by the mid-engine concept's twin electric motor that delivers a total of 420 horsepower, allowing the Emerg-E to hit 60 mph in just 4 seconds with an estimated top speed of 130 mph.
