From humble beginnings, the Fast and Furious franchise has exploded into one of the biggest in Hollywood. Naturally, the growth has introduced plenty of characters and all the relationships that come with them. Keeping track of all these relationships over the course of eight movies is an exercise in patience. Fortunately, Punched Clocks founder Sarah Landrum is a patient woman since she was able to connect all these relationships from all the major and semi-major players of each of the first seven movies, the Fate of the Furious not included.

Fans of the franchise – we know there are a lot of you – will get a good kick out of these infographics as they take deep dives into the world of the Fast and the Furious to remind us how these relationships formed the entire backbone of the franchise into what it is today. After all, the whole ethos of the franchise is “family,” and there are plenty of reminders throughout the course of all eight movies to remind us of all of that.

Fast and Furious?

The movie that started it all, or as what some would refer to it, the movie that told us of Brian O’Connor’s (Paul Walker) fierce battles with Mia Toretto’s (Jordan Brewster) tuna sandwiches. Off the bat, we get to see how important family was in the Toretto household as you can see how interconnected the people are to Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), be it her younger sister, girlfriend Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez), and buddies Vince (Matt Schultz), Jesse (Chad Lindberg), and the franchise’s forgotten man, Leon (Johnny Strong).

It’s also worth noting how different O’Connor’s circle was back then, as the relationship of two law enforcement officials, Agent Bilkins (Thom Barry) and Sgt. Tanner (Ted Levine), were O'Connor's only real connections.

Other characters worth remembering from the first movie included baddie Johnny Tran (Rick Yune), who was connected to only O’Connor and Toretto, and Hector (Noel Gugliemi), who knows pretty much everybody in the movie.

2 Fast 2 Furious0

Notice how much simpler this graph is compared to Fast and Furious 8 That’s partly due to O’Connor being the only major character from the original movie to appear in the second installment. Fast and Furious did introduce us to two characters, Roman Pierce (Tyrese Gibson) and Tej Parker (Ludacris), who would become franchise mainstays, as they still are in Fast 4.

Of note here is the character of Monica Fuentes (Eva Mendes). She plays a prominent role in the movie but doesn’t seem to be friendly enough to any of the other characters. In fact, only O’Connor, Pierce, Parker, and two characters we haven’t seen since, Suki (Devon Aoki) and Jimmy (Jin Auyeung), came with the “friends” connection.

2 Fast0

The current landscape of the Fast & Furious universe didn’t take off until Tokyo Drift so Tokyo Drift falls along the same lines as Fast & Furious in the sense that the relationships there were minimal compared to other Fast movies. For one, O’Connor is absent from the franchise for the first time with Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) taking center stage as the main protagonist of the film. Boswell’s relationships in the movie are minimal, too, as he’s only tied into Twinkie (Bow Wow) and Dom Toretto, at least if we include the after credits scene. He does have a relationship with Neela (Nathalie Kelly), who also happens to be connected to the movie’s bad guy Takashi/Drift King (Brian Tee) in a romantic capacity.

Also worth mentioning is Boswell’s “partners” relationship with Han (Sung Kang), who ironically enough would grow into one of the most popular characters in the whole Fast universe.

Los Bandeleros0

Fast and Furious takes place five years after the events of the first movie and with it comes the return of the majority of the cast that made up the original. Brian returns after a one-film sabbatical while Dom Toretto (not counting his Fast 5 cameo), Mia Toretto, and Letty all return after missing out on the second and third movies. This movie also introduces us to a number of recurring characters in the franchise, most notably Gisele (Gal Gadot), who spent a majority of the movie tied into the world of villain Arturo Braga, before joining forces with Dom’s crew in the next two films while also serving as Han’s love interest to the envy of every male fan of the movie franchise.

Outside of Gisele, Fast and Furious also brings welcomed Rico Santos (Don Omar) and Tego Leo (Tego Calderon), who actually made their debuts in the Fast, the short film directed by Vin Diesel that bridges the aforementioned five-year gap between the first and fourth movies of the franchise.

Fast & Furious,0

Arguably the most important of the Fast & Furious movies for putting the franchise in a global blockbuster territory, Furious 6 is also the first movie and only movie where we see the whole Tokyo Drift team together. Brian and Dom remain the leaders, but both are now joined by Mia, Vince, Roman, Tej, Han, Gisele, Leo, and Santos. You can see that by how massive the infographic is in terms of all the relationships in the movie.

This film also has the distinction of introducing Luke Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) into the franchise as well as Elena Neves (Elsa Pataky), who would go on the become the mother of Dom’s first child, Brian. Hernan Reyes (Joaquin de Almeda) plays the villain in the movie and he’s connected to pretty much everyone in the movie as the enemy. The only notable exception is Zizi (Michael Irby), Reyes’ hired hitman who ends up getting killed by Brian. Eva Mendes also makes a return to the series, albeit in a cameo at the after credits scene where it’s revealed that she’s not only colleagues with Hobbs, but more importantly, Letty, who supposedly died in Furious 6 was still alive.

Fast and Furious 7

Furious 6 takes a deep and dark turn for the franchise as Letty returns, except that she’s a villain now working for the movie’s main baddie, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). Hobbs turns to Dom and his crew for help in catching Letty with the assistance of franchise debutante Riley Hicks (Gina Carano). The infographic here tells you that this movie has the most elaborate and complicated set of relationships as it is revealed that Hicks was working with Shaw all along and Gisele dies in order to save Han’s life. Han himself dies later in the after credits scene at the hands of Owen’s big brother Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) in a timeline-jumping scene back to Fast 5 and if all of that weren’t enough, Furious 6 is also the movie that included the longest runway in the world (29 miles!). Too bad that the runway didn’t have any relationships in the infographic.

Fast and Furious 7

Taking off from the events of the after credits scene, Deckard Shaw is on the rampage, first sending Hobbs and Elena to the hospital before blowing up the Toretto family house. Brian and Dom set out to capture Deckard, only to find themselves in the crosshairs of Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell), who tells them to locate the God’s Eye, a tech device that locates people anywhere in the world, and its creator Ramsay (Nathalie Emmanuel). Chaos soon ensues as the team finds themselves parachuting their cars out of a plane, jumping a car from one building to another, and at least in Letty’s case, getting into a full-on brawl with Kara (Ronda Rousey). Dom almost dies in this movie too but is willed back to life by Letty. Sadly, this is also the last time we see Brian as his character, and that of Mia, is retired in the wake of Paul Walker’s sudden and unfortunate passing.

For what it’s worth, this is also the movie that transform’s the whole team completely. Brian and Mia leave, Ramsay joins, and Hobbs is still, well, Hobbs.

The Fate of the Furious

This is where all the previously built-up relationships take a complicated turn. At the heart of the madness is Toretto’s apparent heel turn, which flips the whole movie upside its head. His turn to the dark side coincides with Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) turning face. Anyway, Toretto's new relationship with the movie’s baddie, Cipher (Charlize Theron), is revealed to be of the forced kind as Toretto’s son – another curveball – was being held hostage together with his mother, who was also revealed to be Elena. Ultimately, Toretto goes back to the good side to help bring down Cipher, but not before another relationship reveals itself, this time involving the Shaw brothers and their mother, who was played by none other than Dame Hellen Mirren.
