Rimac Teases its New Hypercar for Geneva; Say's it's "Alive with Technology"

It could have 1,500 horsepower AND Level 4 self-driving capability

We know that Rimac is presenting a new supercar at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. We know very little beyond that, but the Croatian automaker is giving us a new glimpse of what we can expect courtesy of a short teaser video. The video lasts all of nine seconds, but it was more than enough for us to see sections of the supercar that we weren't privy to in the past. In so many words, holy smokes.

If Rimac is preparing to blow the roof off of Geneva next week, it looks like it has a car that can get the job done. We know very little about the successor to the Concept_One, but the teaser video reveals enough details to give us an idea of what’s coming. From the front, we get to see a car with slimmer headlights than the one found on the Concept_One. There’s also a larger front splitter that extends the entire width of the car. Small air vents can also be spotted on the ridiculously muscular hood. We also get a shot of the rear end of the car, giving us a clean look at the muscular arches, the deployable rear wing, and the sloping roof that suggests that we could be looking at a fastback-style supercar.

The supercar’s power figures have yet to be announced, but past reports have indicated that the new Rimac will use a massive 120 kWh battery pack that will deliver more power and torque than the Concept_One. Considering that the latter already generates 1,224 horsepower and 1180 pound-feet of torque, it’s not within the realm of impossibility that Rimac now has a supercar that can exceed 1,500 horsepower. If that’s the case, the new Rimac supercar — it really is a hypercar now — could accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in less than 2.5 seconds and 200 mph while it’s still stretching and yawning. Oh, and that 210-mile range of the Concept_One? The new model reportedly lasts longer on a single charge. Somewhere in France and Sweden, Bugatti and Koenigsegg are now raising their eyebrows.

Rimac also claims that the hypercar will be oozing in technology, a distinction that shouldn’t come as a surprise to those who have seen and driven the Concept_One. The only curious bit is that it’ll have Level 4 self-driving capability. Not to ruin Rimac’s parade, but what’s the point of having 1,500 horsepower to play with if the car is doing the playing?
