Those of you out there prone to Terminator nightmares – look away now. Massachusetts-based robotics engineering firm and sci-fi-for-real-life makers Boston Dynamics just released a video of their latest creation. It’s called SpotMini, and it’s essentially a smallish robot dog that looks like it could either cuddle and play fetch, or murder you in the coming robot uprising. Maybe both. The clip is less than 30 seconds in length, but its abundantly obvious that the company is making huge strides in developing highly mobile quadruped robots that move and act like living animals.

Last year, we got a look at the original SpotMini, which was larger and less agile than this latest creation. Earlier in June, Boston Dynamics uploaded a video of the first SpotMini, showing how the bot could be used to help around the house to perform chores like loading the dishwasher, while also showcasing its ability to climb stairs and right itself after slipping on some banana peels. Other recent Boston Dynamics creations include the anthropomorphic Atlas and wheel-rolling Handle.

We can’t wait to see what BD comes up with next. Let’s just stick with Isaac Asimov’s three laws, yeah?
