Unless someone had far too much time on his hands and decided to go on a Photoshop binge, what you’re looking at here appears to be the new Volvo V60. The Swedish automaker’s next-generation wagon is scheduled to hit the auto show scene in Geneva next month, but if these photos are accurate, we’re getting a good look at the wagon’s side and rear sections. Color me impressed. The new V60 looks like the kind of wagon you'd want people to see you driving.

Because of their unusual appearance, it’s hard for wagons to really make a lasting stylistic impression in the eyes of customers. But there’s something different about the new Volvo V60. It doesn’t just dump that perception; it throws it in the trash with the ferocity of a Zlatan Ibrahimovic free kick.

A big part of the V60’s appeal is its profile. It’s not as big as the V90, but the combination of the long hood, the sliding roof, and the angular rear create a sporty and aggressive profile that belies its wagon status. The body lines are also perfectly placed, ultimately making V60 look more muscular than it probably is. It’s not a surprise that a lot of the V90’s design cues seem to have found their way into the V60. It worked on the bigger wagon. Now it looks it’s going to do the same for its younger brother.

The shot of the rear also shows how creased those body lines are. The short line just above the rear tires transition into the wagon’s taillights. The rear’s configuration is also similar to the V90, which we’re not really complaining about. The roof rack on top is a solid addition, though that’s probably going to come as an option for those who want to get one.

On the performance end, the new V60 should make use of the engine lineup Volvo has for its crossover equivalent, the XC60. That could include a T5 trim with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four cylinder that has 250 horsepower on tap and a T6 trim with a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged inline-four that produces 316 horsepower. The range-topping T8 hybrid trim should also be on the menu with an electric motor joining the same T6 engine to produce a combined output of 400 horses.

The all-new Volvo V60 will make its official debut on Wednesday, February 21, before making the trip to the Geneva Motor Show in early March.
