A few days ago, our spy photographers caught the next-generation Mercedes GLK for the first time on German roads. Today, our spy photographers managed to catch it again, and this time they caught it up close, giving us a better look at the upcoming SUV->ke145.

The prototype->ke146 looks to be a little more than halfway through its development, so it still has plenty of camouflage hiding its goodies. Even with the heavy camo, it's clear that the new GLK->ke2078 will be a bit larger than the current generation, so it will likely have more space for passengers and luggage.

The GLK will be built on the same platform as the soon-to-be-revealed C-Class, and it will finally drop the awkwardly proportioned, boxy style, and adopt a more rounded and refined crossover shape. We can't express how happy we are to see that old body style hitting the scrap heap, as it is simply goofy looking.

From the C-Class->ke1593 it will borrow the engine lineup, so Mercedes will offer it with gasoline and diesel engines, with the possibility of a hybrid version.

The new GLK is expected to be unveiled sometime in 2015.

Spy Shots Versus Current GLK

The next-generation GLK is still in its early in its development, so Mercedes is trying to hide it under tons of camouflage for as long as possible. A keen eye shows that the 2015 GLK will be slightly larger than the current model, and that it will drop the current body style in favor of a more rounded shape.

Though there are no official details on this, we anticipate that the GLK will adopt a design language similar to what we see with the recently launched GLA-Class. From the GLA, we expect it to borrow the twin-louver grille, the new hood with powerdomes and headlights with available LED daytime running lamps.
