It looks like the cold weather in Sweden has brought many automakers to the Swiss countryside to start testing their cars under these extreme conditions. Today is BMW’s turn to take the coupe version of the upcoming 2-Series out for some fun in the snow. That’s not really a surprise, considering the 2-Series Convertible was been caught testing in the same place just the other day.

The new 2-Series Coupe will replace the current 1-Series Coupe, a strategy that has also been applied to the 3-Series coupe, which will be replaced by the 4-Series Coupe. The new 2-Series will be built on the same platform as the 1-Series hatchback, but it will be a little bit sportier.

For the 2-Series, BMW will only offer four-cylinder engine options in either petrol or diesel formats. The petrol engines' output will range from 150 to 218 horsepower, while the diesel engine will be a 214-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged unit. All the engines will mate to either a six-speed manual transmission or an optional eight-speed automatic transmission, plus, as an option, BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Expect to see the new 2-Series Coupe unveiled sometime by the end of 2013.
