Switzer Performance is making some pretty big claims lately. The Ohio-based tuner has declared its super-powered R35 GT-R,->ke1592 dubbed the “Goliath,” to be the quickest production car in the world, with a 9.41-second 0-to-300 km/h (186 mph) run that demolishes the current standing record of 13.63 seconds.

If made official, it means the Goliath would dethrone the existing titleholder from Hennessey Performance,->ke1863 the Venom GT.->ke4149 Created around the same time Switzer was beginning to establish itself, the Venom GT utilizes a lightweight Lotus->ke49 platform with over 1,000 horsepower stuffed into the back to render a vehicle explicitly designed to be the quickest to 186 mph.

But according to a blog post on Switzer’s website, the Goliath GT-R trounced Hennessey’s pride and joy last month at TX2K15 when it laid down the 9.41-second pass. “’That’s with a 1 foot roll-out on the DOT tires, but they’re all in the 9s,” says Tym Switzer in the post. “Almost every 0-300 run we recorded this weekend was under 10 seconds, which beats the official record by miles. And we weren’t even trying.’”

So then – Switzer bests Hennessey’s record by more than four seconds on the Venom GT’s home turf, and it wasn’t even trying? I ain’t from Texas, but I believe them there is fightin’ words.

Why it matters

While the new record is currently unconfirmed by the folks at Guinness, Switzer isn’t worried. The tuner says it will reach out to set up the time and place to put its mark in the history books eventually, but for now, it’s more concerned with “delivering the customer cars that have already been ordered and supporting our clients at events like the TX2K and wannagoFAST,” according to Tym Switzer.

The company says it’s not out to set records, even though the Goliath set a standing-mile speed record two years ago. Instead, the shop just wants to build fast cars. However, I can’t help but think that the recognition of a Guinness World Record might help further that goal. More attention equals more business, right? 

Regardless, with this new benchmark on the table, you can bet Switzer’s competitors won’t be standing still. A 9.43 0-to-186 mph time is amazing, no doubt about it, but if this new unofficial record has taught me anything, it’s that any record can be broken eventually. 

Based on the R35 GT-R, the Goliath has over 1,800 horsepower of all-wheel fury, with two ball-bearing turbochargers, a big-bore exhaust, new intercoolers, and Q16 race fuel bumping output from the 3.8-liter VR38TT motor exponentially. Eight-second quarter miles are the norm. It’s the peak of Switzer’s Performance offerings. “At the end of the day, this is still a drivable streetcar, albeit at the limits of what most people would tolerate in real-world traffic,” says Tym Switzer. “It’s not the no-excuses, Veyron-baiting, liter-bike chasing super car. That’s the Ultimate. Goliath … Goliath is just a monster.” Asking price is $138,249 plus installation.
