Smart is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and it’s bringing the Foresee Tiny Speedster to the Paris Motor Show to commemorate the occasion. The Foresee is the latest concept in a long line of concepts to come out of smart, taking after other memorable creations like the Crossblade and the Forspeed. As it is, the Foresee is still a concept, and a production model is unlikely in the cards.

We’ve seen this song-and-dance number from smart before. Daimler’s compact car brand has a reputation for developing zany-looking concepts. The Crossblade and the Forspeed are top-of-the-mind mentions, but let’s not forget other prototype beauties like the Fourstars, For-Us, and FourJoy.

The Forease Tiny Speedster is a fitting new member to the family tree. The absence of a roof emphasizes the roll hoops and ducktail spoiler at the back. Notice how these two elements are actually integrated together? Speaking of design tricks, the concept also comes with door handles that are recessed in the door.

Up front, the Forease Tiny Speedster continues to imbibe the spirit of Smart concepts from the best. The headlamps feature three vertical LED lamps, arranged like three columns bundled together. We haven’t seen this specific headlamp layout from Smart before, but that’s exactly the point. The company never runs out of new headlamp designs. The overall profile of the Forease Tiny Speedster fits what a Smart model looks like. It’s small, compact, and doesn’t offer much in the way of luxury. But its size is its own calling card, in large part because the company has made a name for itself as a go-to brand for customers looking to conquer urban jungles all over the world.

Let it be said, though. Smart’s newest concept is one for the books. It’s not going to win any design awards anytime soon, but it is a good reminder that Smart has always had a knack for designing memorable concept vehicles. The company is on the verge of becoming an EV-only brand — it already is in the U.S., Canada, and Norway — in Europe in 2020. Here’s to hoping that when that time comes, and a wave of new models come into the picture, a production version of the Forease Tiny Speedster arrives with the whole family.
