Land Rover has been very secretive about its ground-up new 2020 Defender (in the works for over five years now) that will probably make its debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Now, for the first time, we’ve found a photo of the 2020 Defender's interior, and we’re pretty sure Land Rover is not too keen on it having been shared.
Regardless of what Land Rover wants, it’s now out, and we can finally see what all the fuss and secrecy was about.
The steering wheel is most likely the final design (and a new one not used in any other Land Rover product), though, as is the dash, the placement and style of the ignition, the gearbox selector and pretty much all the rest of it. In spite of the photo being low-res, you can clearly see all the details - it leaves little to the imagination.
The design itself is certainly modern and quite upmarket (it has stitched leather on the upper part of the digital instrument binnacle and along the leading edge of the dash. In terms of design, it’s a huge leap forward over the model it replaces, and it looks like it has more tech too.

Land Rover designers also seemed to have had a bit of fun with the Defender. I don’t know if this will make it to production (it most likely will), but the pedals on this automatic gearbox example have “Stop” and “Go” written on them, alluding to the fact that this new Defender is going to be a fun-loving vehicle and it addresses a similar audience.
The all-new 2020 Defender will probably debut at the 2019 Frankfurt motor show in mid-September, but it will go on sale and start reaching buyers later, in 2020.
