Mercedes has given its C-Class-sized SUV, the GLC, its obligatory mid-lifecycle refresh in order to bring it in line with the rest of its model roster. It now has a new face, an updated interior, a new 2.0-liter turbo engine, mild hybrid technology, and some new safety technology too.

What's New About The 2020 Mercedes GLC

It might come off as hard to spot the exterior design changes of the 2020 GLC versus the pre-facelift model. However, I think it’s plainly obvious that it has new headlight clusters with integrated LED daytime running light strips, a reshaped grille, and a new bumper.

Its side doesn’t really differ - this is a facelift, after all - and in the back, changes are less evident. Redesigned light clusters and new bumpers keep it looking fresh. It also appears as if the pre-facelift model’s fake exhaust tips are gone and in their place, we have real ones; a welcome change.

Reflecting interior changes Mercedes made with the refreshed C-Class (whose interior is nearly identical to that of the GLC), the revised GLC now sports a redesigned steering wheel that's available in two styles. There's an optional fully digital gauge cluster, “refined materials” throughout the cabin, a new gesture control feature for the new center touchpad (that also provides both haptic and acoustic feedback,) and a revised voice control system.

It can add 13 horsepower and 150 Nm or 110 pound-feet of torque for brief periods of acceleration. Mercedes says it only boosts power and especially torque up to 2,500 rpm, though. Efficiency is rated at between 7.1 - 7.4 l/100km or 39.8 - 38.2 mpg U.S.

Two other engines will be offered in Europe, and both are 2.0-liter four-cylinder mills. The GLC 220d runs a 194 horsepower version of it, while the GLC 300d is tuned to 245 horsepower. They return a claimed 5.5 and 5.8 l/100 km or 54.3 and 48.7 mpg U.S., respectively.

The refreshed 2020 Mercedes GLC will first go on sale in Europe and will reach the US by the end of 2019.
