If you’ve put money down on a new 2015 Corvette Stingray Z06, you’ll be happy to know Chevrolet->ke199 is beginning deliveries of its sports car.->ke506 The Vettes are currently rolling onto trucks headed to dealers where customers can take delivery starting this week.

This marks the beginning of Chevy’s new ultimate Corvette.->ke1280 The Detroit bruiser comes packing a supercharged, 6.2-liter V-8 that makes 650 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 650 pound-feet of torque at 3,600. Those numbers rank highest in the long list of GM’s production vehicles. Optional with that engine are two transmissions: the standard seven-speed manual, complete with Active Rev Matching and No-Lift Shifting; and the all-new eight-speed automatic.

Those looking to row their own will enjoy a 0-to-60-mph time of 3.2 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 11.2 ticks while those more concerned about acceleration numbers can achieve 60 mph in just 2.95 seconds and the quarter mile in 10.95 seconds with the lightning-fast automatic. Regardless of transmission choice, both configurations finish the quarter mile at 127 mph.

Stopping is also accomplished in a record-breaking distance: 99.6 feet. That’s better than anything GM->ke2320 has ever sent down the production line. Lateral acceleration tops out at 1.2g thanks to the Z07 performance package and its sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Customers have a wide range of choices when it comes to the new Z06. It comes in both coupe and convertible form, the two transmission choices, three stages of aerodynamic bodywork, and plenty of color and interior options. Prices start at $78,995 for the coupe and $83,995 for the convertible.->ke144

Why it matters

The Z06 is the baddest, fastest, and most expensive Corvette GM has ever produced. These power levels are rarely achieved in the sports car realm, and now average Joe with some retirement money can have a GT-R and Ferrari killer -- all while getting it serviced at the Chevy dealer down the road. It’s a great time to be a car fanatic in America.

Chevrolet Corvette Z06

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06 is a track-ready supercar now available right off the Chevy showroom floor. It combines stellar aerodynamics with purpose-built suspension with a supercharged V-8 and two killer transmission options.

This also marks the first time since 1963 that Corvette has offered the Z06 in a convertible form. For those not wanting the drop-top, the coupe still comes with the removable center roof section for open-air cruising. The stiff aluminum-intensive frame and body makes the panel and roof a non-essential component to body stiffness.
