May 4 may just be an ordinary day for most people, but tell that to a Star Wars fan and you’re just as likely to be met with death stares and attempts to choke you with the Force. See, May 4 is a special day for aficionados of the galaxy far, far away as it has come to be known, unofficially at least, as Star Wars Day. It's even widely referenced through the greeting, “May the Fourth Be With You.” Since most of us here on TopSpeed are proud servants of pop culture, we recognize May the 4th for what it is to Star Wars fans. Today is a celebration of all things Star Wars and we’re doing our part by revisiting some of the coolest Star Wars-themed cars in recent history.

Most of the cars who made this list were created either by actual automakers or aftermarket tuning companies. Since we don’t want this list to get out of hand, we’re not going to include each and every Star Wars-themed, custom-built car we’ve seen in the past. Doing so would mean that we’ll be here forever and we wouldn’t want to do that since we’d like you to prepare yourselves for tomorrow’s festivities when May 5 – Revenge of the Fifth – takes its turn on the calendar. So go check out the list and let us know which of these Star Wars-themed rides you'd want to be driving today.

Prominent models from automakers and tuners

Nissan Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition}

Introduced in time for the release of Star Wars: A Rogue One Story, the Nissan Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition was a result of a marketing strategy that came together seamlessly because of the similarities of the SUV’s name with the title of the movie. Naturally, took advantage of the hype generated by Rogue One and partnered with the film, allowing it to release the Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition. Two specific body colors were offered for the Rogue One Stars Wars Limited Edition – Magnetic Black and Glacier White – presumably inspired by the white uniforms of the Stormtroopers and the all-black costume of Darth Vader. In addition to the two colors, the SUV also featured logo decals of the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire on the D-pillar, Rogue One badging on the front doors, and a Star Wars logo clear rear bumper protector.

Nissan Juke}

Okay, so this one isn’t technically a Star Wars-themed, special edition Nissan Juke, even though a lot of us we’re led to believe that it was. In any case, the whole thing turned out to be a promotional campaign in Japan revolving around the automaker’s quirky crossover and the launch of the 15RX personalized package that was developed specifically for the Juke. Since Nissan already had an existing partnership with Star Wars at that time, the company decided to use Stormtroopers to promote the custom package and the entire personalization program for the Juke. It was a little disappointing to see Nissan leave the Juke out of making any promotional special editions dedicated to Star Wars. Then again, neither the Force Awakens nor Rogue One had Jar Jar Binks in them.

Fiat 500e Stormtrooper}

By now, it’s probably become apparent that Stormtroopers have become the go-to inspiration for a lot of the Star Wars-themed cars in recent history. One in particular even made its way to the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show and it was appropriately called the Fiat 500e “Stormtrooper.” The electric compact car was finished in white body paint with black trims carefully added throughout the body to make out the head of the redesigned First Order Stormtroopers. Notice how it looks different from the original troopers from the original trilogy? The modern styling inspirations continue in the front grille where the Fiat logo is replaced with an image of a Stormtrooper’s helmet. Meanwhile, the interior of the compact car also gets the same white-and-black treatment, right down to the Alcantara-upholstered seats.

Dodge Charger / Dodge Challenger / Dodge Viper

Like most of the cars on this list, Dodge’s trio of performance cars were given the full-on Star Wars treatment as part of a marketing campaign to promote a Star Wars movie. Dodge revealed these trio of Star Wars-themed cars – the Viper was dressed in a Kylo Ren livery while the Charger Hellcat and Challenger Hellcat were given First Order Stormtrooper garbs – ahead of the release of The Force Awakens back in late 2015. Of the three, the Kylo Ren Viper looks the best, not only because its whole aggressive persona plays well into the Dark Side, but because the whole Kylo Ren livery looks about as cool as any Star Wars-themed car we’ve seen.

BMW M6 Stormtrooper by Vilner}

Okay, so this is an aftermarket project from Bulgarian tuner Vilner, but it’s still worth mentioning because of the number of easter egg references hidden in the whole program. The obvious one is the use of a three-layer White Peal paint finish, although let’s be honest, anything white can be attributed to the Stormtroopers so it really doesn’t count. Fortunately, Vilner also threw in a set of 20-inch black wheels that feature the same white stripes of the X-Wing fighter’s ion engines. It’s a pretty small detail that may escape other people, but the reference to the fighter planes the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic used in Star Wars is a nice ode to the movie.

Honorable Mentions

Lamborghini Gallardo}

It may not be the best way to dress up a Lamborghini Gallardo, but you have to admire the owner’s dedication here. Not only is it a meticulous livery with plenty of references like the Jedi Order crest on the passenger side door and the Galactic Empire on the other side, it also has an image of R2DR, or at least a likeness of the droid, on its rood. The likely reference to the Knight of the Old Republic could also point to this owner being a hardcore Star Wars fan.

Honda Civic Del Sol H-Wing by Shawn Crosby

This is based on the Honda Civic Del Sol, a taiga-top roadster Honda built from 1992 to 1997. Solid backstory, but who’s really paying attention to that particular piece of information? All I see here is an X-Wing-inspired creation, right down to the (prop) blasters on the sides and, well, R2-D2 at the back. I’m not sure if this is going to pass entry into any exclusive clubs, but as far as Star Wars fans are concerned, this X-Wing-inspired Civic Del Sol should feel right at home in their galaxy.

Boba Fett-inspired Hyundai Veloster

Arguably the most impressive custom Star Wars-themed car on this list is this incredible piece of work right here. It’s Boba Fett-inspired livery is incredibly detailed, right down to the peeled off paint that has become one of the most enduring features of the bounty hunter’s costume. It even has a roof box that received its own unique livery and a message in Mandalorian on the rear bunmper that apparently translates to “No Good to Me Dead.” For one of the franchise’s most popular cult personalities, this Hyundai Veloster is a pretty good ode to feared bounty hunter.

Custom X-34 Landspeeder

I highly doubt that this custom-built X-34 Landspeeder can actually hover off the ground and fly like the own Luke Skywalker owned, but the mere sight of it in full scale is enough to leave me very impressed with it. This creation actually dates back to 2007 and is the brainchild of Daniel Deutsch. According to Deutsche, the Landspeeder was build largely from fibreglass to go with a custom aluminum chassis. It even came with an electric drive system that allowed it to travel at a top speed of 25 mph. Pretty impressive, right?
