Renault premiered the grand stage with an all-electric crossover concept called K-ZE. It will eventually head to the production line and reach the masses next year. The concept looks funky, and the production version may not be very different from the concept. Given the segment Renault has slotted it in, the car will most likely fetch big sales numbers.

The K-ZE Concept Is Based On The Kwid

The all-electric range is expected to be 150 miles, which is a good figure as per segment norms. The "K" in the name supposedly stands for "Kwi" and the ‘ZE’ is a reference to the electric powertrain.

Charging can be done through a domestic plug or public charging stations. Inside the cabin, the Renault K-ZE gets an infotainment system that includes a navigation system, reverse camera view, and some other connected services. Renault’s Chairman and CEO, Carlos Ghosn, said: “We are introducing the K-ZE, an affordable, an urban-SUV model electric model, combining the best of Renault Group: our leadership in EV, our expertise in affordable electric vehicles, and in forging strong partnerships.”

Renault's Ambitious Plans For The Future

Thus, the next-gen Clio will come with a hybrid powertrain, whereas the Captur and Megane will be seen in plug-in hybrid avatars.

Other than the cars, Carlos Ghosn also revealed an Augmented Editorial Experience, or AEX. He described it as “a new vision for the future of mobile continent,” which combines “content, connectivity services, media, and mobility,” and it’s said to “turn travel time into a learning experience beyond driving and beyond the car itself.”

Conclusion

The K-ZE will first launch in China in 2019. The car has jointly been developed with Dongfeng and Nissan’s joint venture called the ‘e-GT New Energy Automotive Co’ that, according to Renault, is “created to develop and produce competitive electric vehicles for the Chinese market.” The concept looks sweet, but do you think the production-spec car will retain similar looks?
