FCA has given the Jeep Wrangler a new job this summer – to keep people safe at the beaches of Romagna, Italy as a beach patrol vehicle. The automaker has presented a custom Wrangler to the Italian ‘Carabinieri’, to patrol an 18-mile area of the Romagna Riviera that includes popular resorts. We’re pretty sure the ‘lifesaver’ will be a tourist attraction as well!

First Things First

This hot car has been tailor-made for beach patrolling activities. The Wrangler gets a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine, mated to an automatic transmission. It also receives a 2-inch lift kit by Fox Performance, front steering stabilizer, front and rear molded splash guards, and side mudguard extensions. The wheels are 17-inch x 8.5-inch Performance Gladiator black alloy rims, wrapped with 32-inch all-terrain tires to let it tread through any uneven terrain. Apart from all this, the “beach baby” also gets a flashing light, siren with telescoping mounting, machine gun holder, portable radio, and two signaling disc holders.

Fiat Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne, and Region COO, Alfredo Altavilla, met with Commander-in-Chief Giovanni Nistri and Vice Commander Riccardo Amato and presented the Wrangler to the Italian Carabinieri during a ceremony in Rome recently.

Conclusion

The Wrangler is not FCA’s first offering to the government wings; the Italian Carabinieri service also includes a Jeep Renegade, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio helps in escort duties and special missions like transport of organs and blood, the Fiat Ducato is used by the bomb disposal squad, and so on. However, the Wrangler is arguably the swankiest of the lot. How about starring it in the next Baywatch movie, perhaps? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
