The police get new equipment to combat tailgating in Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety are to bring in a new device that can measure the distance between to moving vehicles, if the distance is below that regarded by law as safe, then the driver will be pulled over and fined.

Tailgating is an ever growing problem, on the one hand you have people out for a nice quiet and easy drive, they stick to the speed limits or below, in general they are a sort of moving road block to those drivers who are late or who use the road for a living and therefore drive differently than every one else. There is no right or wrong here, but there is no good excuse for tailgating, it is almost bullying, yet with all the pressures of the daily grind it has become a fact of driving on the road.

The equipment has been issued to DPS officers and over the past year there have been over 100 tickets issued to drivers who have been found to be tailgating the cars in front of them.

So whatever your viewpoint, the authorities have another tool to use against drivers.
