In a surprising turn of events, Porsche greenlighted the production of their Mission E Cross Turismo Concept. It is a strange, almost rugged, crossover-ish Porsche that grew from the architecture of the magnificently beautiful Taycan. Or the Mission E as it was known before acquiring the new name. Preparing for the production and the final development of the all-new electric cross, Porsche plans to create 300 new jobs at its home base in Zuffenhausen. This comes in addition to 1,200 jobs the company has already created for the production of the Taycan sedan.

The production version of the Mission E Cross Turismo will be a something like a Taycan wagon with a higher ride position. Don’t expect it before 2021 or 2022, though. After all, Porsche will increase investments into developing the electromobility solutions to $6 billion by 2022. The Mission E Cross Turismo Concept is only a part of this story.

What Is The Porsche E Cross Turismo Concept?

This is a version of the Mission E based on basically the same architecture with the same drivetrain but a somewhat different cabin layout and character. With it, Porsche definitely wanted to feel the market pulse for something like a wagon crossover thing.

Now, I see that the Porsche E Cross Turismo Concept is something like the Audi A6 Allroad. Only not ICE powered, nor as rugged, but I believe you see the connection.

Porsche E Cross Turismo Concept Electric Drivetrain

As is the case with the Mission E, now known as the Taycan, the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo Concept has an electric drive system with a total power output of just over 600 horsepower. I am quite sure the same will end up in the Taycan CUV. After all, the electric system will probably be found in the Audi E-Tron GT - the Taycan’s cheaper brother.

Well, I don’t know if I am getting older or what, but this isn’t the point. At all. The point is that the system supports an 800-volt charging system. The same as the Taycan and the E-Tron GT. With the network of 350 kW charging stations sprucing up all over Europe and the U.S., the production version of the E Cross Turismo Concept will actually come to a done deed. Buyers of the Taycan and other expensive Audi electric cars will pay for the whole network. Now, I believe that many of you would like to have something similarly powerful at home. While I am not sure that a recharging system like this is actually possible without some major electrical installation modifications, Porsche will surely provide some sort of advanced home chargers for its cars - assuming you're willing to pay for it, of course.

Porsche Taycan CUV Range

If the NEDC is to be believed (and it, honestly, isn’t), the Taycan CUV will be able to cover 310 miles on one charge. The WLTP measuring standard (currently a hot thing in Europe and elsewhere), will slash that number down. Then there is the EPA who would, by my knowledgeable guess, set the range of the Porsche E Cross Turismo Concept at 250-ish miles. Not bad considering its performance and the fact it can recharge rather fast.
