Lamborghini has been a fuoco in recent years. The Italian automaker came into 2017 having recorded six straight years of rising sales. Turns out, that streak remains alive and strong. As expensive as its cars are, Lamborghini posted another banner year in 2017 after selling 3,815 units throughout the year. That figure represents an increase of 10 percent compared to its numbers in 2016.

To say that it’s been a good sales year for Lamborghini is a massive understatement. For the year, the Italian automaker sold 3,815 units, an increase of 358 sold units compared to the 3,457 units it sold in 2016. It’s the seventh straight year that Lambo has improved its sales volume.

Lambo’s successful run in 2017 can be attributed to a number of factors. First, it grew its dealership network by adding 10 more dealerships throughout the course of the year. As it stands, the company now has 145 dealers from all over the world, a staggering number for an automaker that’s known largely for its exclusivity.

More importantly, Lambo’s success can also be traced back to the strong performance of the Huracan. The 600-horsepower, V-10 supercar continued to sell like ice cream on a hot summer day in 2017. For the year, sales of the Huracan reached 2,642 units, accounting for almost 70 percent of Lamborghini’s total sales volume for the year. In fact, the Huracan has been such a success for Lamborghini that the automaker actually built the 9,000th unit of the model after just three years of production.

It goes without saying that the Huracan is on pace to become Lamborghini’s most successful model in history, upending the iconic Gallardo that sold more than 14,000 units in the course of its 10-year life. If current trends hold, the Huracan will eclipse the Gallardo’s total sales volume by 2020, doing so in half the time the Gallardo did to get to its record number. The Huracan should hold on to that record, at least until the Urus inevitably wrestles it away.

That’s right. The arrival of Lamborghini’s new SUV, the Urus, is expected to help the company double its sales volume in 2018. We’re talking about selling just under 8,000 total units for the year, a remarkable achievement considering that the company sold just 1,302 models as recently as 2010.

Most of Lamborghini’s sales for the coming year will likely belong in the U.S. market, which retained its spot as the automaker’s biggest market with sales of 1,095 units in 2017. Japan and the UK are also expected to contribute heavily this year after posting sales of 411 and 353 units, respectively, in 2017.
