The McLaren 720S was never intended as a dragster, but that doesn’t mean this supercar masterpiece is anything less than amazing on the 1320. In stock form, it’ll dip into the 9’s - or you could just throw a few basic mods at it and shave that ET down to an 8! And that’s exactly what the owner of this particular 720S did, posting a time of 8.993 at 159.55 mph.

Fast Out Of The Box, Mind-Bending With A Few Mods

The McLaren you see here is owned by Instagram user Mostrotoys, and it currently puts down 943 horsepower at the wheels. For reference, that’s more than the hybrid hypercar McLaren P1.

To help it accomplish such stratospheric figures, this modded 720S was upgraded with new turbochargers, as well as a cat-less exhaust to help it breathe. In back, you’ll find a pair of barely-street-legal Toyo Proxes R888 tires, which replace the stock Pirelli P Zero rubber. A fresh engine management tune keeps it all working as intended.

It’s not much in terms of upgrades, but it’s more than enough to make the beastly McLaren 720S even more outrageous when foot meets carpet.

Watch the video, and you’ll see the driver take a few practice runs, warming the tires and hunting for a sub-9-second time. By the end, the McLaren posts an 8.993 ET at 159.55 mph, making this particular example the first 720S to blitz the 1320 in less than 8 seconds.

All told, it’s a very impressive accomplishment for a full-interior street machine, even if it does happen to be a modified $289,000 supercar. To help put it in perspective, a time of 8.993 is quite a bit quicker than the standard car, which posts sub-9-second ETs at 140 mph right out of the box.

Even so, it looks like there’s still some time left in this thing, especially in the launch. Watch closely, and you’ll see that the tires are never really at their limit when it comes to traction. What’s more, the transmission programming looks like it’s struggling to figure out how to get off the line with all that extra power and grip.

Either way, we hope Mostrotoys keeps at it. Perhaps we’ll see 7’s sometime in the near future…

As for the stock McLaren 720S, specs include a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 mounted just behind the cabin. From the factory, the ‘eight produces 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, all of which is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission. Carbon fiber construction keeps the excess heft in check, with the curb weight rated at 3,000 pounds. The sprint to 62 mph takes 2.8 seconds, while top speed clocks in at 212 mph.
