There's a Bentley Bentayga Speed in the Works and It's Going to be Lambortastic

The British automaker wants to take on its Italian cousin in a family banter

Volkswagen has done this before as well, and it is doing it again. This time, the automaker is pitting two of its most esteemed marques against each other. Bentley is working on the Bentayga Speed, and it might be just as powerful as the Lamborghini Urus. Won’t this hurt Lamborghini’s sales? Maybe, but if you look at it from the bigger picture, it is the VW group at the end of the day that’s benefiting.

Bentayga With Speed Is All That You Need

According to Autocar, the British automaker is working seriously on the Bentayga Speed. The 6.0-liter, twin-turbo W-12 engine will be tuned to produce 641 ponies – 41 more than the standard Bentayga. The Italian Bull takes 3.6 seconds to sprint to 62 miles per hour from a standstill in 3.6 seconds. The Benteyga Speed from Crewe will take under four seconds to touch the same ‘speed’. It will also have an increased top speed of 190 miles per hour over the standard Bentayga.

It Doesn’t Matter As Long As A Volkswagen Is Being Sold

When the Lamborghini Urus was launched, it was clear that this will be the sporty, fast-runner SUV, whereas the Bentayga will be a more luxurious and sophisticated beast. But with other models like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the upcoming Ferrari Purosangue in the battlefield, Volkswagen went defensive and decided to make the Bentayga as sporty as the Urus to make sure the customer stays loyal to the VW Group, irrespective of whether it chooses a Lambo or a Bentley. And, the Bentayga was chosen to bode two roles because you cannot tame a bull, can you?

What Else Can We Expect?

Other than the power bump, the Bentayga Speed will come with a revised eight-speed automatic gearbox and a tuned chassis to improve cornering at high speeds. Bentley is not aiming to reduce weight or make it more aerodynamic; all it plans to do is give it raw, brute power! Not much is expected to change in the design department, but there will be some tweaks and exterior upgrades. The same goes for the interiors as well. It may retail with a price tag of £185,000 ($236,000) in the U.K., before adding any options. Bentley will also be launching the Bentayga PHEV this fall with a larger battery pack and lower emissions than the model it showcased in Geneva last year.
