As someone who’s looking to start a family in the near future, I’ve noticed that there’s a whole new world of craziness awaiting me. It’s bad enough that I’ll soon be trading off my first baby – a very-well-maintained 1991 Acura Legend – for a safer, more family-friendly car like a Volvo or Subaru. I just came to terms with that when I realized that I’m in over my head when it comes to finding a car seat that I trust enough to actually use. That’s when I stumbled across the company Mifold and its range of booster seats. Sure, it’ll be a few years before I have to worry about booster seats, but holy crap are these things awesome. They are compact, light, safe, and some of them even look cool.

After browsing the MiFold webpage a bit, I got to thinking about giving up my Legend, and the fact that I may not be able to have a truly fun car anytime in the foreseeable future – at least not if I want to take my mini-me with me, anyway. Then it hit me – with something like this, I may not have to give up my Legend after all. With a booster seat so compact, parking my little car for a few years might actually be an option. Think about it – a four-year-old can easily fit in the back of a small sports coupe. With a booster seat small enough, there’s no real reason to give up your sports car as long as it actually has a back seat. Sure, you can’t haul your infant around in it but, once they are old enough for a booster seat, why not introduce them to the wonderful world of sports cars a little earlier? The point is that, for those of us who thought that starting a family meant trading off our beloved sports cars forever, there may be a solution. That is, assuming you can get the wife to agree and that you can afford a new family car without selling your other pride and joy, of course.

Either way, I’ve listed all of MiFold’s products below because I think they are cool and wanted to share them with you. If it convinces even a few of you to start using a booster seat for your little one, or helps you hang on to your four-wheeled love, then I’ll consider this mission accomplished.

The MiFold Grab-and-Go Booster Seat

The Mifold Grab-and-Go is by far the smallest and most compact of the lineup. Be that as it may, it can still support any child between 40 and 100 pounds (15-36 kg) and is suitable for any child that is between 40 and 57-inches tall. The design itself is simplistic but extraordinary. The device provides a full seat cushion and folds in half for easy transport or storage. The security looks for the lap built are also adjustable while the attachment for the shoulder belt clips into place for easy installation and removal. This model meets and exceeds global safety standards, including the newest NHTSA regulations here in the U.S. The company claims that the MiFold is composed of SuperTough plastic polymers and aircraft-grade aluminum while the seat itself is comfortable, slip-resistant, and designed to stay cool. Believe it or not, this thing is actually small enough to fit inside most gloveboxes, some center consoles, and it’s light enough that your kids can carry it around in their backpack. All of this while meeting regulatory approval and it won’t break the bank with a price of just $44.99.

MiFold Sport

The MiFold Sport is basically the same as the Grab-and-Go model, however, it features what the company refers to as “high-end performance materials and artisan craftsmanship.” It features leather upholstery and maybe even a little extra cushion for added comfort. Is it the Ferrari of booster seats? We can’t say for sure, but it certainly looks cool for something designed with safety in mind. As is the case with the Grab-and-Go model, the Sport is suitable for kids ranging between 40-100 pounds with a height between 40 and 57 inches. In other words, it’s designed for kids four years and older depending on how fast your little one is actually growing. It took meets U.S. safety regulations and weighs about 1.6 pounds. When folded, it easily fits within a glovebox, door pocket, or backpack as well. It does feature leather and the cool color scheme, so it comes at a slightly higher price – $74.99 – but it looks pretty cool and certainly appears convenient.

MiFold One

Don’t think you need or want a booster seat that folds? Well, MiFold thought about that too and came up with the MiFold One. It’s basically the same thing as the Grab-and-Go booster, but it doesn’t feature that folding seat. It still has the adjustable arms on the side for and the easy-clip shoulder strap, and it weighs just 1.5 pounds. Like the rest of the lineup, it takes about 30 seconds to put in place and is good for any child that is 4 years or older and falls within the 40-100 pound weight and 40-57-inch height requirements. Truth be told, this one probably isn’t as comfortable as the sport model but should be on par with the Grab-and-Go – the cushion appears to be made from the same material. It features the same high-strength materials, but the downfall here is that it doesn’t fold, and it just doesn’t look as cool as the other models. It retails for $44.99, the only decision you have to make for the entry-level models is whether or not you need or want that cool folding feature.

HiFold by MiFold

The MiFold models have been designed to be very compact, but the HiFold is a bit different. It’s considered a “highback booster” and unfolds to become the size of a traditional, full-sized booster seat. It’s not on sale yet and is currently still in crowdfunding via Indiegogo, but the pricing looks to be about right. The current Halloween special will reserve you a single Hifold and a storage bag for about $125. So far, the campaign has raised nearly half a million dollars, and delivery is expected to begin somewhere between March and May of 2019 depending on which perk you actually chose. MiFold promises that the HiFold will meet the same global standards as the other models already on the market and it is fully adjustable in height and width. The same height and weight restrictions apply and, despite its larger size, it still weighs less than 9 pounds. If the Mifold Sport is the Ferrari of booster seats, then the HiFold is the Bentley, hands down.

Final Thoughts

I’ve been looking at reviews and listings for safety seats for weeks, and I just now stumbled across MiFold, so I thought I would take the time to share their products with you. Not as someone that’s getting paid to represent the brand. Not even as someone that has used the product before. But as someone who’s been digging around in the market for a while and found these booster seats to be the most interesting and budget-friendly models this far. The company webpage has plenty of testimonials, and its crowd-sourcing campaign on Indiegogo has flown off the charts in terms of support. So, I can’t exactly vouch for their safety or comfort – check with me in four or five years for that – but I do think that those of you with little ones should give them a look. Either way, it looks like I might be keeping my Legend after all. She’ll have to get used to being a garage queen outside of the occasional weekend trip for a while, but I think it’ll work out.
