Don’t lie about it – there was at least one point in your life where you were sitting on the couch, pigging out on a big bucket of chicken or ribs when all of the sudden you were out of cola. Of course, you have to get your lazy ass off the couch to get some more right? Before you did, though, you most definitely thought to yourself, “how cool would it be if the fridge could come to me?” didn’t you? Well, in the near future that could actually be a reality, as Panasonic has built the world’s first, fully autonomous refrigerator. That’s right, not only will it bring you a fresh cola or beer, but another burger, some more chicken, or even that hot sauce you forgot to grab. And, the best part is…. Wait for it….. it comes to voice commands. That’s right; you don’t even have to use your smartphone to summon this self-driving make-you-fatter-and-lazier machine.

It goes by the name KU and is just a prototype for now, but Panasonic is pretty sure that it can bring it to market within the next half of a decade or so. It uses LIDAR, which is the same system used by most of the level-3 autonomous cars like the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model 3, and it’s even safe enough that it can avoid unexpected obstacles like an unruly kid or a dog that’s not sure what the hell is rolling through its house. Despite the fact that this thing will be taken advantage of by lazy and fat people all over the globe, it does have one benefit, and that’s the big help that it can be to the elderly and the handicapped, both of which have a genuine reason to need something like this.

With that said, it is a pretty cool piece of equipment, and when you consider the fact that we now have refrigerators that make our shopping lists for us, send us messages, and can even order food for us, this is the next step, right? I mean, you can’t really beat the coolness that is a self-driving refrigerator. It apparently has a wireless charging system as well, however, there’s no telling how long the battery will actually last when it isn’t docked. My guess would be 10 minutes at a time. After all, you don’t need to park the thing next to the couch when it comes to your command. What do you guys think? Is this something you want, or is it a little too much? I can think of a few people in my life that could certainly benefit from it, but a lot more that would certainly want it for other reasons. Watch the video then let us know where you stand.
